The Crew Day Report – Creux du Van

The Creux du Van sits between the Canton Neuenburg and Waadt, in the Jura. It is about 1200 meters wide and 500 meters deep. Sentier du Creux du Van is since 1870 on of the oldest nature reserve in Switzerland and the home of many different Animals such as ibexes. Amazing views and breath taking moments are guaranteed on this hike.

Since the weather forecast didn’t look very good we had a bad weather plan B scheduled, which was to go bouldering. But nevertheless we went for a hike and were happy we took that decision. At around 13.30 hours the clouds disappeared and we had a beautiful sunny hike all the way to the top.

Directions

Driving from Zurich to Noiraigue took about 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Noiraigue you can park either close to the station or you can drive to Ferme Robert and park right there. From there on the hike starts and takes you up a few hundred meters on asphalted ground until you reach the beginning of the forest.

Right after the beginning of the forest after the first curve on the left hand side you will find a small path. Depending on your preferences you can either start or end your hike and this point. We decided to take the path on the right. The advantage of taking the right hand path is that when you walk down again it is going to be less steep and a lot more relaxing for you knees.

We kept on hiking through the forest for about 1-1.5 hours in a zig zag route. Once you arrive on top the view is just amazing. From there on you walk along the rocks. If you want to take a break there are many campfire spots and also a little local restaurant calles “Le Soliat”. Along the way there are many different spots along the rock where you can take nice pictures but be very careful not to fall down.

Once you reach the end of the rock on the other side there’s a small path leading you through the forest for about 1-1.5 hours back down to where you started from.
