The Crew Day Report – Gross Aubrig
Since the Gross Aubrig is not that high (1965 masl) it is possible to hike up quite early in the season. The route runs mostly on the southern slope, therefore most of the snow is already melted.
We drove with the car to the Wägitalersee and parked close to the Restaurant Stausee. From there we walked along the lake in direction Gross Aubrig, over the small bridge until the starting point of the hiking tour. The start of the hike is quite steep and stony. After a few hundred meters the hike takes you through on a scree slope in the forest up to a wooden boardwalk. From there on the path is more easy and leads to a stream. From the stream the path takes you out of the forest up to the Alp Bärlaui.
The hike from Alp Bärlaui to the top is a lot more challenging than the first part of the hike. We recommend to only take this path when there are dry conditions. The last part doesn’t have a clear hiking path. We hiked straight up the mountain and just had the marked T3 stoned to figure out where we had to go. Once you reach the top, the view is amazing.
