The Crew Day Report – Vorder Glärnisch

On our way up to the Vorder Glärnisch we’re constantly being rewarded with breath taking views of the Klöntaler lake and the surrounding mountains. The route is very diversified. Starting with a path which takes us through the woods to a fixed rope route until we reach some barren rocks, this route gives us a lot of different terrains to master. The observant eye will even find some Edelweiss flowers. This hike should only be done when weather conditions are really good.

We drove from Glarus in direction Klöntaler lake. At the hotel restaurant Rhodannenberg we take a left over a small dam and drive up towards Schwammhöchi. We parked out car and started walking on the asphalted path until we see the first blue white mark. From here on the actual hiking route starts.

Along the stream we hike through the forest until we reach the cave in which the dragon sleeps 🙂 From there on we follow the rope route up to the level called Gleiter. Once at the top, there’s a small mountain hut. On the left side on the grassy slope the path leads up to the Vorder Glärnisch. The trail now continues zigzagging to through partly exposed places, but they are provided with ropes to hold on to. The very last part is quite hard but you’ll get rewarded with an amazing view.

On our way back we follow the same path until we reach the level with the little hut called Gleiter (1520 masl). From there we decided to take a longer route down and went along the steep slope on the left hand side behind the hut. The path is called Vrenelisgärtli and takes you to Alp Mittelstaffel (1450 masl) which is another small hut. Once we’ve reached the hut we take a sharp right (180 degree) and walk down in the opposite direction over the Vorder Schlattalpli to Tschingel back to our car. This route back is definitely less painful for you knees and legs.

After such a long hike we went to the Schwammhöhe restaurant and enjoyed the view on the Klöntaler lake while eating a Schnitzel.
